Have you ever noticed that in most sitcoms all of the conflict that is driving the story could be cleared up with one simple communication? Sure, it would make for a very short show, but it should help you to realize that good communication resolves nearly every conflict.
Your body relies on good communication. In fact, it is your communication system that is the very first to develop in the womb. Your Nerve System is with you right at the beginning to help coordinate the development of all of your newly developing systems.
What happens when your nerve system is interfered with? Do you remember the drug Thalidomide? This drug was prescribed to pregnant mothers to help with morning sickness. It worked great for this, however they soon discovered that it interfered with the nerve system of the developing fetus. If the baby actually survived, they were born with very shortened limbs. These Thalidomide Babies are a very sad example of Nerve System interference.
Did you notice how many drug ads now say, do not handle this medication if pregnant or breast feeding? Now you understand why.
Do you remember Christopher Reeve? Christopher was an actor and a very powerful guy. Here is a little of his story...
Christopher got the role of his life. He was to play Superman. Mostly, he got the role because of his resemblance to Clark Kent, Superman's secret identity. The producers had planned to use a foam muscle suit on him because he was too skinny to fill the Superman suit. Christopher would have none of that and he totally transformed his body to fill the suit with his own muscles.
He was our generation's Superman.
Unfortunately, Christopher suffered a tragic horseback riding accident. He broke his upper neck and severed his spinal cord. His brain could no longer communicate with the rest of his body from the neck down. He would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. This is a tragic example of complete communication system shutdown.
Now let's explore the most common interference to the Nerve System called the Subluxation. But first, let's discuss a little anatomy. By now, you understand that your Nerve System is the master controlling system of your body. Every muscle, every cell, every organ, every gland's function is controlled and coordinated by your Nerve System.
Your Nerve System is protected by your skull and your spine. Your skull protects your brain and your spine protects your spinal cord. Your spine allows you to stand upright and also allows movement and flexibility. It is really an amazing set up. Unfortunately, your spine is prone to Subluxation.
Subluxation is a small misalignment of the spine that creates an interference or energy drain to your Nerve System. At first, you do not consciously notice this imbalance. Your body adapts and you go on your merry way. But then, you suffer some other stress or trauma and another subluxation is created. More imbalance occurs. Your body adapts, you don't really notice, and you go on your merry way. This occurs over and over again and your ability to adapt lessens. Until...
You may be thinking, but I never had a trauma. Think about how traumatic most births are. Think about how many times you fell when you were learning to walk. Did you know that over 50% of all babies roll off of the changing table? I would suggest that you follow around a 2 year old some day. They bounce, they fall, they fight with each other, they stumble, they wrestle. Trauma happens. OSHA stated that the average person has had over 1000 traumas by the age of 13.
When a subluxation occurs, what might you feel? Pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, or nothing at all. If the nerve going to your digestive system is interfered with due to subluxation, what might occur? Your digestive system would not be functioning at 100%. You may experience constipation, diarrhea, gas, malabsorption, or you may notice nothing.
But here is a question, how much interference is a good thing?
Place your hands over your ears and have a conversation with someone. Sure, you can probably understand it, but if you took your hand off of your ears it would be a lot clearer. Subluxation is like covering your ears and trying to communicate.
Now let's look at the BIG picture. We experience our life through our nerve system. Think about it. We hear, see, feel, smell, taste, think, process, contemplate, etc. through our Nerve System. Do you think your experience of life would be as clear if your perception of life was altered due to Subluxation? Subluxation alters your perception of what is. What would happen if we had a whole world filled with subluxated people? Look around. Read the paper.
Part of my mission in life is to clear out subluxation in as many people as possible so that my daughter, Evan, has a better world to grow up in.
One final word on Subluxation. Neurologically speaking, Subluxation puts us in a state of fight or flight. In other words, it turns on our survival mechanisms. We go into defense. What does a world of people in defense look like?
Chiropractic is the only profession that focuses on the correction of subluxation. A chiropractic adjustment helps you move from a state of survival into a state of "thrival." You move from defense to offense. Your body's function improves. Your capacity to handle stress improves. Clarity returns. Ultimately, your world becomes a better place. The earlier you begin the better.
